Abstract

The present invention is an adjustable reflector headlamp system that is responsive to vehicle payload. The headlamp system utilizes adjustable reflectors in the headlamp housing to maintain the declination angle of the optical axis of the headlamp when changes in the vehicle payload occur. Changes in the vehicle's payload are measured by monitors on the vehicle's suspension.

Adjustable Reflector Headlamp System Responsive to Vehicle Payload

Automobile and trucking manufactures desire to improve their products' attributes and differentiate their products by adding feature to vehicles that are responsive to driver needs. A headlamp that is responsive to environmental factors or driving conditions serves both these functions. One problem with conventional vehicle headlamps is that they do not adjust to the change in the declination angle of the optical axis of a vehicle headlamp due to changes in vehicle payload. What is needed is a headlamp system that is responsive to vehicle payload.

The present invention is an adjustable reflector headlamp system that is responsive to vehicle payload. The headlamp system utilizes adjustable reflectors in the headlamp housing to maintain the declination angle of the optical axis of the headlamp when changes in the vehicle payload occur. Changes in the vehicle's payload are measured by monitors on the vehicle's suspension.

In Figure 1, vehicle 100 possesses a conventional headlamp 110. When vehicle is loaded with payload 140, declination angle 130 of the optical axis 120 of headlamp 110 increases, resulting in poor illumination of the road.

Figure 2 illustrates the adjustable reflector headlamp assembly 200. Adjustable headlamp assembly 200 includes a bulb 210, top adjustable reflector 220, top motor 225, left adjustable reflector 230, left motor 235, bottom adjustable reflector 240, bottom motor 245, right adjustable reflector 250 and bottom motor 255.

Bulb 210 emits light, which is reflected by adjustable reflector 220, 230, 240 and 250. Declination angle 120 of optical axis 130 of adjustable reflector headlamp assembly 200 can be altered by changing the angles of adjustable reflectors 220, 230, 240, and 250 using corresponding motors 225, 235, 245, and 255.

Adjustable reflector headlamp system responsive to vehicle payload operates as follows. A monitor on suspension of vehicle 100 measures sustained compression of suspension. Suspension monitor transmits compression measure to C.P.U., which maintains declination angle 130 of optical axis 120 by changing angle of adjustable reflectors 220, 230, 240, and 250 of headlamp assembly 200 using motors 225, 235, 245, 255. C.P.U. contains algorithm for change in angle of adjustable reflectors 220, 230, 240, and 250 necessary to maintain declination angle 130 of optical axis 120 of adjustable reflector headlamp assembly 200.
