Abstract

The present invention is a bicycle roller system with roller pins specially shaped to accommodate the beginning cyclist. The pins are parabolic in shape, with the center of the roller pins having the smallest circumference and the two ends of the roller pins having the greatest circumference, affording the cyclist added balance and natural positioning in the center of the roller pins. The amateur cyclist can now feel confident mounting the once intimidating bicycle roller system knowing that his maintained balance is a natural design feature of the system. As an added feature, the frame of the bicycle roller system is engineered such that it is capable of being folded in half, allowing for easier transport and storage.

Collapsible bicycle roller system

A bicycle roller system of the type in which a frame carries rollers arranged to support the wheels of a free-standing bicycle to permit the bicycle to be operated on the rollers in a conventional manner, i.e., with all motive power and lateral balancing of the bicycle being supplied by its operator. In the bicycle roller system disclosed herein, the frame is formed of side rails that mount the rollers at adjustable intervals along the length of the frame to accommodate various bicycle and wheel sizes.

Bicycle roller systems provide great exercise and training to both the professional and amateur cyclist, teaching the rider both balance and endurance. However, the traditional bicycle roller systems prove difficult for the beginner to use in that he is not supported and has to rely on his own balance to maintain a riding stance or promptly fall off the roller system and risk injury as he crashes to the floor. The present invention is a bicycle roller system with roller pins specially shaped to accommodate the beginning cyclist. The pins are parabolic in shape, with the center of the roller pins having the smallest circumference and the two ends of the roller pins having the greatest circumference, affording the cyclist added balance and natural positioning in the center of the roller pins. The amateur cyclist can now feel confident mounting the once intimidating bicycle roller system knowing that his maintained balance is a natural design feature of the system. As an added feature, the frame of the bicycle roller system is engineered such that it is capable of being folded in half, allowing for easier transport and storage.

Figure 1 consists of a bicycle roller system including two side rails 110, three roller pins 120, a plurality of supports 130, a plurality of roller pin fittings 140, a point of collapse 160, and a bicycle 150.

Roller pins 120 are constructed preferably of stainless steel and are placed into roller pin fittings 140 inherent in the two metal side rails 110 such that the roller pins 120 perfectly fit the dimensions of the user's bicycle. A plurality of supports 130 keep the roller pins 120 a distance above the ground. When not in use, the bicycle roller system is capable of folding in half, at the point of intersection 160, for easier transport and storage.

The cyclist mounts the bicycle on the bicycle roller system and begins pedaling. Balance is lent to the cyclist via the special design of the roller pins 120, as seen in Figure 2.
