270 DEGREE SPHERICALLY EMITTING VISUAL ALERT FEATURE

by Tom Rollins, Joseph Laviana, Robert Lloyd, and Tuan Nguyen

There is an increasing proliferation of paging form factors that are not belt worn (e.g., credit card, pocket, watch, etc.). These form factors create the need for alerts that can be seen from more than one visual plane.

The design approach, described herein, provides for a highly visible and cost efficient visual alert that:

1) provides for the emitting of visual stimulus in 4 planes, and
2) allows for customization of the alert via logos or shapes painted or molded on the lens or as custom molded LED's that eliminate the need for a lens

The alert is located at one corner of the radio housing (which corner is determined ergonomically) resulting in 4 plane directionality. The LED or lens is molded to conform to the external features of the corner of the housing. A custom logo or shape can be molded as part of the LED or if a standard LED is the preferred light source, a lens could have the custom molded features. In addition, custom logo's and shapes could also be provided by painting the lens or LED.
