In current pagers, once the code plug has been programmed with options and customer paging codes, this infor- mation must be tracked in order to test the pager. When a customer code is not tracked, the code plug must be read in order to obtain the code and options before it can be tested.

STANDARD PAGER IN USER SELECTABLE MODES

by Pamela A. Rakolta

In current pagers, once the code plug has been programmed with options and customer paging codes, this infor- mation must be tracked in order to test the pager. When a customer code is not tracked, the code plug must be read in order to obtain the code and options before it can be tested.

This idea solves the above problem by loading default code plug information into the pager memory when the pager is put into special modes by the user.

For instance, when the Watch Pager's self-test is activated by a combination of button presses, default code plug information is accessed from ROM and used in place of the customer paging code. Therefore, whether or not the code plug was programmed previously, the pager can be tested with the default code. The watch pager uses this feature in its self-test mode that measures pager sensitivity. Any pager can be put in self-test mode and become an non-battery saver pager with default code.

This idea would also be beneficial in the field. The repair station would not need to track the customer code in order to put the radio into self-test and perform a page sensitivity measurement.

Other modes could also implement this feature. For example, currently a numeric pager offering the Over-theAir option specifies a function as alphanumeric. The function is not used for normal paging. This idea would allow the user to pu...
