Abstract

Pagers and other portable electronic devices using LCDs as displays generally use a lens in front of and spaced from the LCD. Because of the spacing, there is a problem with dust and moisture entering between the LCD and the lens, which dust and moisture can greatly impair the clarity and efficiency of the unit.

DUST PREVENTION GASKET FOR LCD

by Chia Huan Seng, Low Chuen Choi, Chan Chew Lan and Liew Kee Keong

Pagers and other portable electronic devices using LCDs as displays generally use a lens in front of and spaced from the LCD. Because of the spacing, there is a problem with dust and moisture entering between the LCD and the lens, which dust and moisture can greatly impair the clarity and efficiency of the unit.

An improved gasket, formed of silicon rubber or the like is used to mount the LCD and lens in the housing of the electronic device so that the spacing therebetween is sealed from dust and moisture. Further, the gasket provides a shock mounting for the LCD and lens so that breakage is substantially reduced. FIG. 1 illustrates a dust prevention gasket 10, an LCD 12 and a lens 14 with a tape peel protector 16 in an exploded view. FIGS. 2,3 and 4 illustrate different configurations of the dust prevention gasket assembled into different types of housings.
