  With the ever increasing complexity of pager features and options and the trend towards fully automated manufacturing, the need has arisen for a paperless method to track pagers through the manufacturing process.

  The invention described herein provides a method to store and display, in a bar coded format or any other computer generated and computer readable format, information which is required during the manufacture, testing, diagnostics, coding, and field repair of pagers featuring liquid crystal displays. The LCDs must be dot matrix with a small enough pitch to allow ,continuous lines to be displayed. Utilizing existing

components which are an integral part the the pager's design, ensures the highest possible efficiency in performing these functions.

  The LCD provides the means to display information stored in the pager's memory devices. This eliminates the need to apply extraneous labels or generate redundant paperwork which may easily become separated from the pager at any point in the manufacturing cycle.
