Abstract

The present wrist pager incorporates switch actua- tors that pass through the housing. These actuators are designed to be water resistant and as such they are designed and manufactured to high tolerances. Each actu- ating switch consists of a machned actuator button, a spring, an "0''-ring and an "E"-ring for capturing the assembly. The complexity of the assembly procedure combined with the large number of parts in each switch system makes for a very time consuming, expensive and defect ridden assembly.

Another problem with the contact scheme is the making action the fore mentioned uses to function the pager/clock. The button assembly pushes a grounded leaf spring into a gold plated PCB edge contact. With the switch form factor presented in this patent, the switch plate and possibly the gold plated edge can be elimi-

nated. This aids in the quesi to continually downsize the wrist product and further e&mates unique components and costly manufacturing sieps.

It is possible to achieve $ waterproof switch feature in the strap of a watch form fa+tor pager if we package exist- ing technology in a new c+iguration. The use of a capaci- tance type antenna, using standard flex technology (See Figure l), gives us the abiit$ to incorporate pressure sen- sitive switches into the flex. Refer to the fol...
