Background

      When a Video Graphics Array (VGA) and a Digital Video Interface (DVI) are both required on a system, the conventional method requires placing both connectors next to each other or placing the DVI connector on a separate board that occupies one PCI slot.

Description

      The disclosed method is a connector that combines a VGA connector and a DVI connector in a single package. The key element of the method is a VGA connector and a DVI connector integrated one over the other in a stacked configuration.

              A DVI and a VGA connector are integrated into one component. This method can be accomplished either by placing the DVI connector B on underneath the VGA connector A or the A connector underneath the B connector. The Front View (see Figure 1) shows the former configuration using a Digital DVI connector, though an analog or analog/digital DVI connector can be used in its place. The Side View shows how the leads C of the top connector are routed out behind the leads D of the bottom connector. Because the DVI connector has more leads, it is typically advantageous to place the DVI connector on the bottom and the VGA connector on top to minimize material usage and to simplify assembly.
