Abstract

A large part of the paging market consist of women users. By combining the alert mechanism (vibrator, LED, transducer, etc.) into a purse strap or brief case handle, the female market is provided with an attractive alterna- tive to the bulky traditional pager attached to a belt, pocket or wrist. This is accomplished by adding the alert mech- anism to the purse strap and providing an interface (con- nector) to be connected to the traditional pager. By doing this the pager can be put inside the purse and still main- tain the capability to alert the user of incoming messages.

INTEGRATED ALERT MECHANISMS FOR PURSE STRAPS

by Rodney Whaley, Eric Eaton and Mostafa Hedayajnia

A large part of the paging market consist of women users. By combining the alert mechanism (vibrator, LED, transducer, etc.) into a purse strap or brief case handle, the female market is provided with an attractive alterna- tive to the bulky traditional pager attached to a belt, pocket or wrist. This is accomplished by adding the alert mech- anism to the purse strap and providing an interface (con- nector) to be connected to the traditional pager. By doing this the pager can be put inside the purse and still main- tain the capability to alert the user of incoming messages.

A multiwire ribbon c+le is placed into the purse strap. One end of the wire has a male connector which will fit the female connect& located on the pager. The wires in the strap are then &me&d to the corresponding alerting mechanism. The iager has a header wired in series with the traditional al&ng mechanisms. The inser- tion of the male jack into ihe pager will disconnect all the traditional alert mechadism in an effort to save bat- tery capacity.
