Design for a fan heatsink clip attach/detach tool

Disclosed is a design for a fan heatsink clip attach/detach tool. Benefits include decreased  installation/deinstallation time and decreased personal and equipment damage.

The disclosed design (see Figure 1) enables the installation and/or disassembly process for the RPG FC PGA metal clip. To operate the tool, perform the following steps:

1.           Place the heatsink on top of the processor (see Figure 2).
2.           Attach the backside of the metal clip to the socket tab (see Figure 3).
3.           Place the tool into the clip attach window (see Figure 4).
4.           Leverage the clip outward and downward into the tab position with the tool
              (see Figure 5).
5.           Allow the clip to relax into the socket tab position (see Figure 6).

The conventional solution is to use a screwdriver. This alternative causes equipment damage, broken motherboards for example, and personal injury from screwdriver slippage.

The disclosed design is optimized to enable engagement into RPG processor fan heat sink clips and provides a mechanical advantage that assists the installation and/or disassembling of high-force metal clips. Key features include a small radius finger protrusion (see Figure 7) and corresponding sides relief for engagement to the clip. This tool provides the mechanical leverage and control (see Figure 8) for installing RPG's boxed processor thermal solution into a system platform.

The use of this tool decreases  installation/deinstallation time and decreases personal...
