Disclosed is a method to build cross-platform compliance within the system abstraction layer (SAL) of a computer with 64-bit processor architecture. The disclosed method consists of an algorithm that tests SAL compliance against required specifications.

                    Computers based upon 64-bit microprocessor architecture are a relatively new, and the system abstraction layer for this model is being developed for the first time. Therefore, no compliance test has been developed for SAL. Although the original specification for the design and implementation of SAL does exist, the problem is that compliance of the resulting implementation with the specification can not be guaranteed.  The reason for this is that different vendors are likely to have their own implementation of SAL.  It is also quite possible that these implementations will vary, resulting in inter-operability problems across different platform and platform components.

                    The disclosed method solves this problem by developing a compliance test program. SAL is a software layer that is responsible for initializing and booting a 64-bit microprocessor based system. The EM mode of operation makes the development of compliance test even more complicated than traditional compliance tests that have been written for 32-bit processor based platforms.
