  This invention permits a number of features requiring the entry of a multi-digit number to be entered into a radio having only a standard channel change switch and monitor and call/repeater access buttons.

A few possible uses are:-
1. The entry ofa large number of channels or modes.
2. The entry of a password before the radio will operate.
3. The entry of a security code to gain access to fea- tures not permitted to all users.
4. The entry of a code that determines the fimction- ality of the radio for a particular user or group. This could vary channels, call codes etc.

RADIO OPERATION

Several methods of operation are possible, two ofthe many possibilities are described below:-

1. The call/repeater access button is used as a digit separator (call it *).

The monitor button is used for "function clear"

W). The channel switch is used to set the digit for entry (0 to 9).

To enter the digit 49065 the operation sequence would be:-

*4*9*0*6*5*FC

2. This method does not require the use of a moni- tor button.

The call/repeater access button is used as a digit separator (call it *), a press greater than say 4 seconds in duration can be used to enter the digit input mode.

The channel switch is used to set the digit for entry (0 to 9), entering a digit greater than 9 ter- minates the digit input mode.

To enter the digit 49065 the operation sequence would be:-
