  This publication discloses a solution to customer concerns relating to the loss of pager battery doors while also providing ease of battery removal, testing and ESD protection.

  This invention, illustrated in Figure 1, provides an integral battery compartment which mechanically attaches to the pager body. Figure 1, also shows the electrical connections to the printed circuit board of the pager with by a flexible interconnection method. This design provides for ease of battery removal by providing for continuity of motion and a much larger access area to the battery. Detachment of the bat- tery compartment will remain electically connected

to the pager allowing for access to the programming and RF contacts, thereby, improving testing tech- niques. Improved ESD protection is accomplished through strategic relocation of the normally exter- nal pager programming contacts. The obvious ben- efit of relocating the contacts internally is conceal- ment from exposure to ESD activity. With the semicaptive battery conliguration, door misplacement should be minimized due to the integral nature of the design. The optional RF port outlined in this design should allow for improved RF testing tech- niques through use of RF injection into a balanced load.
