PROBLEM DEFINITION

  The current chip shooter and the fine pitch machine technology utilizes 2 sec./PCB to read fidu- cials before placing parts on the PCB's. This can add up to 12 sec./pallet if eight PCB's are used per pallet. This causes in reduction of throughput as well as machine utilization time.

16 sec. for eight PCB's to two seconds. While the first X-Y table is utilizes to place parts on the PCB; the 2nd table is used to MAP the fiducials on the 2nd pallet. Once the placement on the first PCB or pallet is completed, the 2nd pallet is loaded in and two fiducials are read. The Mapping of the fiducials for the rest of the pallet is done based on the first two fiducials. In addition to reduction of cycle time on the first machine, the Mapping process can be utilizes to the other equipment on the same LCA line as long as the PCB's are not removed out of the pallet.
