  Pager designers typically utilize battery housings to constrain the battery and to support battery con- tacts. When a battery housing is required to be reflow soldered in place, the material selected for the hous- ing will also have excellent mechanical properties, Therefore, it can also be used to provide the supporting structure for printed circuit board connections.

  The invention illustrated in Figure 1 provides a method to combine a multi-pin printed circuit board connector with a molded battery housing. Combin- ing these two mechanical elements reduces direct material cost and improves the products assembly efficiency thereby further reducing the manufactured cost.

  The individual pins are insert molded or press into the battery housing. The battery housing assem- bly is then reflow soldered to the primary PCB. The secondary PCB has the mating connector solder to it. The secondary PCB is assembled to the PCBI battery housing assembly by pressing into place in the usual manner.

  Figure 2 is a cross-section view through a con- tact pin. This view illustrates the invention as installed in a pager.
