HAND-SET RETENTION MECHANISM

  This design for a hand-set retention mechanism combines three elements and incorporates two dif- ferent requirements into a single field up-gradable design.

  The basic model has no lever pull to release the mechanism. The up-graded model is a high shock resistant hang-up cup which requires activating a lever to release the hand-set.

  The hang-up cup is an active electronic housing and is water tight. The retention mechanism is designed not to impair the hang-up cup sealing level and is uniquely designed as an external feature.

  No screws are required-the assembly is a simple manual sequence of three parts, requiring a three- step assembly.

  Figure 1 shows an exploded view of the hang-up cup. Figure 2 shows a cross-section with the hand- set in place. The assembly sequence is as follows. Assemble spring on arm locking by mounting it on one of the pins and then pulling it over on to the second pin. Place this assembly into the mechanism

cavity in the top housing and insert the retainer into its guides to lock the mechanism in place. The retainer will click snap into place once fully engaged.

  To mount the hand-set in place, place the hand- set into the hang-up cup top first and press down until it locks. For dismounting, just pull the hand- set outside ofthe hand-up cup.
