Abstract

Line cords emanating from molded 3 prong AC plugs have the following undesirable attributes: Long "bend radius" for heavy gauge line cords employing a "straight exit" path. This is also not good in areas where a "wall hugging" cord is desirable or where neat dressing of several such cords is necessary.

1lOVAC POWER PLUG/ADAPTER ~, WITH UNIVERSAL JOINT CORD EXli

by Anthony J. Bogusz and James Booth ~

Line cords emanating from molded 3 prong AC plugs have the following undesirable attributes:

Long "bend radius" for heavy gauge line cords employing a "straight exit" path. This is also not good in areas where a "wall hugging" cord is desirable or where neat dressing of several such cords is necessary.

For "right angle cord exit" plugs, the dirkction of cord exit often covers the second outlet in a duplex AC outlet, thus rendering it unusable.

The two major embodiments of the product address both ofthese issues and their resultant ram- ifications. The first is an AC plug which allows full 360" rotation (continuous in either direction) of the plug body while the three prongs are firmly inserted into the service outlet. The 3 prongs are feed-through connected to a series of concentric metal circles on a disk. The disk is captivated by the plug housing

and allowed to rotate on,, a center pin. The concen- tric circles conduct the AC currents through a corresponding set of knu+le contacts (similar to the omega straps used in high power RF amplifier deck service) which are stationary in the plug body and connected to the usual screw terminals. These are attached to the wires of the line cord. The line cord exit is strain relieved and routed through a pivoting "universal joint" exit. :
