Abstract

Land Mobile Radio users have an increasing need to interoperate with users on other radio systems. Many users operate from a multitude of indepen- dent radio systems. Many times the user desires to monitor independent trahic on a first-in-first-out basis across a handful of different systems. Prior multi- independent system "scan" methods forces the radio unit to monitor the control channel for target trahic activity in a round robin fashion. This has many problems since it takes a great deal of time to scan each control channel for a particular class of traffic activity. Many times this results in missed commu- nications since a round robin scan can take as long as a typical mobile transmission.

Prior multi- independent system "scan" methods forces the radio unit to monitor the control channel for target trahic activity in a round robin fashion.   Subscriber radios quick scan the local area for target systems just to determine ifthey are in range. Next, the radio locks on one system and sends that system a scan list of talkgroups etc. by system for

each system that is in range of this radio. The scan list is determined by the user of the radio unit. The current system monitors (via an RF or wireline con- nection) trafhc from the target nearby systems and filters and passes on to the subscriber population served by its control channel, only those call activ- ity announcements that are on the list of scan tar- gets.
