BATTERY DOOR VIBRATOR

by Thomas E. Mueller and Aifred N. Danial

There is presently a need from Motorola's cus- tomers for a vibration alert feature for the Wrist Watch Pager. This feature is standard on almost all of the Paging products, however it has been let? off of the Wrist Watch Pager due to size and power constraints.

One method of providing a vibration alert to this pager with minimal size and aesthetic impact would be to combine the vibrator with an existing part ofthe pager. In this case, the vibrator would be incorporated into the battery door (Figure 1). There are existing "pancake" type vibrators that are the size and shape of the battery door (such as Namiki model #lSFV-0201) that could be modified to act as a battery door in addition to a vibrator.

The invention consists of modifying a "pancake" type vibrator by adding a coin slot into one side of the vibrator housing, and adding threads, a gasket, battery contacts, and a vibrator power line to the other side. The coin slot would provide a means of

opening and closing the door. The threads would provide a method of retaining the battery door/ vibrator to the pager, and the gasket would seal the connection between the two. The battery contact would make contact to the battery. This is all simi- lar to existing Wrist Watch Pager battery door. The remaining modification would be to provide a method of supplying power to the vibrator. This can be done by either building contacts into the back of the hous- ing al...
