Abstract

The function of this system is to allow a vehicle to arrive at a destination such as secured govern- ment installation, office complex, or distribution center/manufacturing site and by means of infor- mation and data delivered in route via wide area r.f transmission to this device, to locate and access the correct entry point by transmitting from the device a coded identification access signal to a receiver located at the site entrance. The proposed device would allow access to the site by transmitting the proper I.D. (access code) to a controlled gate via Infiared (LR.) pulse coded modulation methods. Fur- ther the vehicle would be assisted as to which door to continue to by the reading alphanumeric direc- tions transmitted to the device. At the proper entrance door the vehicle operator would again be able to operate the I.R. controlled access door by transmitting the proper I.D. (another additional access code) from the device.

  Referring to the Figure, in the preferred applica- tion the following elements are used to implement the idea. An alphanumeric pager/communicator com- prised of 1) a high sensitivity RF receiver/demodu- lator used for large geographic area radio reception,
2) a microcomputer controller with associated mem- ory storage (RAM), 3) a LCD (or equiv.) visual dis- play, and 4) an I.R. Transmitter using pulse coded modulation (or other modulation method) for short range line ofsight transmission/activation ofaccess

points. The method by which information and entry access codes would be transmitted to the device would be via wide geographic area paging system using standard narrowband radio channels. The...
