BACKGROUND

ADVANTAGES

  There is a need for a reliable reset and battery disconnect for a new generation of mobile data ter- minal. The reset and battery disconnect has to be soEware independent, reliable, easy to implement and secured from accidental activation by dropping or by something being dropped on the keyboard.

  In existing terminals a reset button is provided in a hidden position. When this button is pressed, all memory is cleared by disconnecting the power to the memory.

No special reset and battery button is needed. The unit's keyboard is used.

The two step reset and battery disconnect pro- cedure lowers unintentional reset probability

The arrangement is not dependent on soEware.

The battery disconnect capability by the user allows for storage.

Battery life is extended.

There is a lower capability to sell reversal phenomena.

NEW ELEMENTS

  The new arrangement has a two step reset and battery disconnect process. First a key must be held down for a period of time and then for a limited time a key combination must be pressed. This causes battery disconnect for storage by the user and the battery is connected automatically by connecting a charger to the unit.
