Abstract

In an advanced trunking system, when a busy override call is started, some sites and radios may not be included initially in the call due to lack of channel resources at the affected sites. These radios are not aware that a call is proceeding without their participation. This condition can last for a long period of time. During that time, the radio users may attempt to make calls on the talk-group that has current call activity, but they will not success- fully achieve a call grant. The affected radio users will not be aware of the call activity on their current talkgroup.

SUBSCRIBER CALL-IN-PROGRESS INDICATION

by Osvaldo J. Diaz

PROBLEM SOLVED BY THE INVENTION:

In an advanced trunking system, when a busy override call is started, some sites and radios may not be included initially in the call due to lack of channel resources at the affected sites. These radios are not aware that a call is proceeding without their participation. This condition can last for a long period of time. During that time, the radio users may attempt to make calls on the talk-group that has current call activity, but they will not success- fully achieve a call grant. The affected radio users will not be aware of the call activity on their current talkgroup.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PRIOR ART:

Today, all destination radios do not get any indi- cation when they are not included in a call due to no available resources required to include them. In addition, the radio will be ACKed to satisfy a radio PTT request during this period to prevent the radio from retrying in a condition where there are no available channel resources to include their current- ly affiliated site in the active call. However, this does not provide a meaningful indication to the radio user of the cause of the inability to successful- ly get the call granted.

DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION:

A "call in progress" indication on the subscriber unit will be used as feedback to the radio user of the current condition of the current mode being moni- tored on the radio. Since the control channel data

and audio take separate paths, it is possible to...
