Abstract

This invention attempts to provide the pager with a Graphical User Interface (GUI) Message Organizer Folders for message management. The file folder concept is very common in computer software but not yet available in pagers. Different folders (represented by unique icons) are used to store different types of messages. The following message folders are defined:- - Personal, Group and Maildrop Message Folders When a personal message is received, the pager stores the personal message into the Personal Message Folder. On the STATUS screen, the user sees that the UNREAD PER- SONAL MESSAGE FOLDER icon is dis- played which informs the user that a personal message is received or there are some unread messages in the Personal Message Folder. The user then enters the Personal Message Folder and sees the unread message icon. After read- ing the message, when the pager returns to the STATUS screen, the READ PERSONAL MESSAGE FOLDER icon is displayed which informs the user that there are no unread mes- sages in the Personal Message Folder.
