1.1 PROBLEM

A SmartZone system consists of multiple resources and multiple users. Often it is necessary to patch all users of particular talkgroups into a sin- gle functioning entity. When discussing SmartZone talkgroup patching the following problems arise:

*There is no method of patching talkgroup mem- bers on a per site basis in a SmartZone system.

*Current talkgroup patch mechanism provides a patch for subscribers system wide-across all sites,

l System wide talkgroup patch may waste resources.

The problem with the current talkgroup patch fea- ture is that it patches talkgroup members system wide. In the case of a localized emergency you wouldn't want to patch talkgroup members system wide-patching should be based on location of the emergency. Certain talkgroups are naturally co- located with certain emergencies and therefore it makes sense only to patch them.

Patching in mem- bers of those groups across the system, across city boundaries, or across the state may not make sense for an emergency at a particular site.
