Abstract

This coupler is a female to female phone jack that attaches to a panel of an enclosure (i.e. cabi- net). The internal data cable plugs into the interior side of the coupler while an external data cable plugs into the exterior side of the coupler. The internal assembly of the coupler has a ferrite clamp that encloses the spring contacts where the data signals pass. This ferrite clamp can be changed to meet various frequency ranges or suppression require- ments by selecting different ferrite materials. Serial or other modem type data connections can use this coupler to filter or suppress EMJ noise to FCC or European Emissions Requirements.

EMI FILTERED PHONE JACK COUPLER

by Corey Beck

This type of EMI filtered coupler is much easier to use and much more effective than the ferrite clamps or ferrite cylinders that are placed over the exterior of cable sheathes or insulation. The EM1 filtered coupler snaps into a slot opening of an enclosure (i.e. cabinet). This allows development groups to have a connector distribution panel with coax couplers as well as serial data couplers that facilitate manufacturability, end user's ease of use, and compliancy to emmisions requirements.
