Method for a standardized tray ergonomics clamp

Disclosed is a method for a standardized tray ergonomics clamp. Benefits include improved usability and improved ergonomics.

Background

Stacks of standardized trays with integrated heatsink (IHS) products present ergonomic issues due to the weight of the stacks and the use of thumbs to hold the top trays from tipping (see Figure 1). The conventional solution to this problem is to allow operators to lift a maximum of five full trays of IHS parts at a time.

Description

The disclosed method includes a clamp to hold a stack of standardized trays in place to aid in ergonomic handling. The clamp holds the trays together using the tray end tabs. An operator can place the clamp on a stack of trays and lift the trays without using their thumbs to prevent the trays from tipping. The use of thumbs on a stack of more than five trays full of IHS parts is an ergonomic violation.

The standardized tray ergonomic clamp is based on the standard dimensions of standardized trays. One ergonomic clamp can be used for different stacks of trays.

The clamp can be used on standardized tray stacks of 5 to 13 trays. The clamp extends along the top of the trays lengthwise. The legs of the clamp extend down the tray stack along the end tabs. A feature on the legs holds the tray stack by locking with the end tabs. The legs also wrap around the end of the trays to add support.

Advantages

The standardized tray ergonomic clamp, when placed over a stack of full standardized trays, enables operators to pick up the stacks and not have to support the top tr...
