General Description

The disclosed method is a Gigabit Ethernet controller containing a multitude of interfaces for different network physical layer media. The Gigabit controller may use the following interfaces:

  • Analog interface for Copper, 1000BASE-T (see Figure 1)
  • SERDES interface for Fiber, 1000BASE-SX (see Figure 2)
  • GMII interface for external PHYs (see Figure 3)
  • TBI interface for external SERDES (see Figure 4)
