Background

      Assembling a spring-type clip requires a force in two directions in a tight space. Conventionally, a narrow screwdriver or needle-nose pliers is used to solve this problem.

General description

              The disclosed method is a specialized tool for assembling and disassembling heatsinks. The pliers-based tool engages the assembly clip and spreads it to enable heatsink mounting (see Figure 1).

Advantages

              The disclosed method provides advantages, including:

·        Capability to stretch and install the clip with an ergonomically correct force

·        Prevention of clip over stretching by providing a controlled jaw opening

·        Installation of the clip over a variety of heatsink heights with minimum space between devices (see Figure 2)

·        Use as a gauge to weed out clips that are not in specification
