BACKGROUND

  There is a growing demand for enclosures that can provide both ventilation for thermal require- ments and physical security to protect proprietary equipment and encryption devices from unwanted probing or tampering. One major problem with this demand is that the vent openings in the enclosure must be restrictive enough to prevent unwanted entry, but still allow adequate air flow in and out of the enclosure for cooling.

PRIOR ART

  One common way of accomplishing physical security and ventilation has been to have a series of several walls that have the vent opening cut in them. The walls are then placed parallel to each other with a space between the walls and the vent openings are offset from each other. While this method creates a difficult path for probing and also provides ventilation, it is expensive to fabricate and uses up valuable space inside the enclosure.

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

  This approach provides the necessary air flow as well as physical security to a enclosure. This is accomplished by extruding holes in the same pat- tern on two separate sheets of material.
