CALL BACK REMINDER ALERT

by Lesley Chew Hui Ling

Pagers have reminder alerts for alerting pager users to unread messages. However, any unread messages that require attention at a later time may be forgotten by a pager user owing to various cir- cumstances such as not getting a response from a sender of the messages. This article describes a fea- ture to remind the pager user of the read messages at a later time.

Figure I illustrates application of this feature using an alphanumeric two line pager by way of example. After a message has been received and read by the pager user, a partial menu appears on the pager's screen. The partial menu includes a Call Back icon which is represented by a bold exclama- tion mark. Unread messages will not have this icon in their respective partial menu. Selecting the Call Back icon brings forth a Call Back screen in which the pager user can enable a Call Back and selec- tively set the time and date for a single Call Back reminder alert to go off. Alternatively, a default setting is possible whereby a Call Back reminder alert is provided upon every lapse of a pre- determined interval. In addition, the type of alert such as, for example, audio or tactile alerts, is also

selectable. Upon setting whichever Call Back reminder alert, the message will be represented in a message status screen by an exclamation mark to indicate that it has been set to have a Call Back reminder alert.
