  The following paper describes how the complexity of radio products can be significantly reduced if obso- lete features or never used feature combinations are identified and subsequently been removed from the product.

  The easiest way to collect the information about radio features is at the source - this means directly in the Radio Service Software (RSS) of the product. To collect the information, the RSS packages are expanded by a data base tool to hold the configuration data of each radio and/or to collect configuration statistics of the product. This information can be transferred electronically from the dealer to the manufacturer by using an Info Line, the World Wide Web, a Service Mailbox, etc. Within the company, it is easy to collect the information and use it for product statistics. These statistics allow to identify fea- tures or feature combinations that are never used in the field and to identify functions that are always used in com- bination and could therefore be combined into one feature.
