ABSTRACT

  A single switch is provided on a data transmis- sion device. With one hand, the operator rotates the switch to select data and then presses the switch to transmit the selected data.

INTRODUCTION

  This paper describes how to improve the user interface of a data transmission device, such as a mobile radio. Data is defined as status information, address or any kind of pre-defined data. The selec- tion of the data and the execution of a transmit func- tion with a single operational device is the field of this paper.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED

  A known prior art arrangement includes a rotary switch device, which is already used in different products. The rotary switch can be used to select status or other kinds of information. To transmit the data the operator then needs to push another pre- defined button which is located elsewhere on the transmission device. The transmission device may be the control head of a mobile radio.

This prior art arrangement requires two actions

by the operator, who may be under time pressure or whose hands may be impeded by extreme-weather clothing.

PROPOSED SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM
