by Werner Zundel, Jochen Karasch and Siegfried Pungenberger

ABSTRACT

Multi-Functional-Display build in any vehicles to control different units and give any information to the driver/user.

INTRODUCTION

This paper describes a possibility for a user to have a Multi-Functional-Display and Control Unit to operate several apparatuses e.g. car radio, CD player, car telephone, mobile radio, tachograph etc., with one control unit respectively one user interface only in a car environment.

PROBLEM(S) TO BE SOLVED

Limited mounting space available in passengers area of vehicles for communications electronic devices. Simplification of different user interfaces.

PROPOSED SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM(S)

The multi functional display/control unit allows the user to operate several different apparatuses e.g. car radio, CD player, car telephone, mobile radio, tachograph etc., with one control unit respectively

one user interface only., The apparatuses ("black box" modules) mentioned can therefore be mounted and stored in a theft proof housing located in the trunk of a vehicle or an equivalently safe location.

Data are exchanged via an infrared bus (= robust against interferences) eliabling the control unit to recognize which modules are connected. Information like volume levels, channels, etc., are displayed and adjustments can be made via the con- trol unit.

This "system" can be expanded without any additional cost f...
