This is only possible if a number of these devices are purchased, or the lecturer hands his/her own laser pointer out to each questioner in the audi- ence. There is significant confusion, disruption and time loss when a single pointer is passed around the audience.
PROPOSED SOLUTIO(l TO THE PROBLEMS
The solution we propose is to incorporate a laser pointer into everyday portable electronic products such as pagers, mobile phones and personal organiz- ers. This would mean that everybody, either giving a presentation or being an audience participant, can communicate his/her opinions to the entire audience with little effort. The added advantage that this product would bring is that clear communication would become easier and thus more frequent. Products containing laser pointer technology could become as common as ball-point pens or measuring rulers.
One can easily envisage a question and answer session on a complex topic, where the audience attendee can use his/her personal laser pointer to highlight the area of concern on a screen or other object. Everybody in the audience including the presenter can then focus on the problem and no time is wasted on interpreting a vague question.
The following figure shows a pager adapted to serve also as a laser pointer.
