INTRODUCTION

  This paper deals with the emergency mode of a mobile radio. It will help to improve the conve- nience and especially the safety of the user. No space and no installation effort for a control element are required any more.

PROBLEMS TO BE SOLVED

  Actually a mobile radio, perhaps installed in a taxi, wilI be set into the emergency mode by press- ing a hidden button. The installation of this button is costly and causes irreversible mounting holes in the car. Further on the required switch must be dust and water protected, since it normally is installed in the foot area of the driver. This, and the required long- term reliability, makes such a switch quite expensive.

  The described solution will help to save the installation and the material costs.

PROPOSED SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM

  Taxis are sometimes the target for robbery and hijacking. To help a taxi driver in such a critical sit- uation, mobile radios can be programmed to execute

a so-called emergency mode. In this mode the radio seems to react to the user's inputs as usual, but in reality it transmits the conversation in the taxi to provide helpful information for rescue.

  A method to avoid the normally used emergency switch for activating this mode is to implement a voice recognition system into the mobile radio. Such systems are already implemented in some GSM- phones to enable a driver keeping his hands on the stee...
