PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED

  Today, people making frequent purchases at local stores, many times carry numerous credit cards, grocery cards, and bank cards. Sometimes these cards are lost or stolen, with the resulting potential for causing monetary injury to the both the card holder and card issuer.

THE INVENTION

  The invention is a cellular-like device that is used for credit card, insurance card, grocery card, etc. transactions. This device would be small (like the new cellular phones that tit in the palm of a per- son's hand or like a pager) and has a small display and a few ergo keys on it. It may also have a slot in the side of it the length of a credit card. For the purposes of this disclosure, this device shall be referred to as a Rf Wallet from this point on.

  The concept is this - when a consumer needs to make a transaction, the user would activate the RF Wallet. This results in a location update (also known as a registration) of some sort being sent to an existing cellular / dispatch / paging (pick one!) infrastructure. This location update would proceed as normal, which means the consumer would also be authenticated. (This validates that the device was not lost or stolen.) Now the infrastructure knows the location of the consumer and also knows that the transactions about to be made are being made by the person who owns the RF Wallet.

  Next the consumer selects, through use of the ergo keys and display, which card type they would like to use (Card A, Card B, grocery card, etc.). At this point, one of two ideas could be used. The fast idea is that the magnetic snip used by a credit card reader or the card used in the i&a-red reader could "pop" out of the slot on the side of the RF Wallet. With this idea, traditional card readers could still be

used, which means that stores would not have to replace all their existing devices used for transac- tions. The second idea would be to replace existing credit card readers, etc. with some sort of new device that could read some sort of signal from the RF Wallet. The signal could be i&a-red light, rf, etc. But, in either case, the credit card transaction is completed.
