ABSTRACT

This paper describes a tool that was imple- mented on the IRIDIUM@ program to mate Gilbert connectors. We developed a tool to solve the problem of mating these connectors.

PROBLEM

The problem we encountered was that there were no tools commercially available to mate cables with Gilbert connectors. When trying to mate these cables by hand with gloves on, you couldn't see if you were mating the connectors straight. Fig. 2

SOLUTION

Our solution to the problem was the Gilbert connector mating tool. This tool allows us to mate the#male and female connectors without visual obstructions and straight on.

OPERATION

The tool works by inserting the cable into the grove and then sliding the tool onto the connector, the cable is now ready to be mated.
