General description

        � � � � � The disclosed method is slot control and power sequencing in the chassis management module for slot-based computer systems (see Figure 1).� These systems include but are not limited to CompactPCI systems and ultradense rack-mount servers.

        � � � � � Slot control and the power-sequencing module (PSM) are responsible for power up, power down, and reset of all blades in a PICMG 2.16 [PICMG 2.16 is a CompactPCI-specific standard.� chassis (see Figure 2). PSM is additionally responsible for the dynamic discovery of the blade-management controller type and notifying health-state changes to the system health and event monitor (SHEM). PSM fully automates the hot-swap power control of CompactPCI boards in and out of the PICMG 2.16 chassis.

        � � � � � PSM can identify boards that do not connect to the CompactPCI bus and power them up even if they are inserted into a peripheral slot without a system slot board present for the same bus. If a system slot board goes unhealthy, PSM automatically powers down all peripheral boards on the same bus. PSM enables the automated reconfiguring of PCI segments with a bridge card.
