General description

        � � � � � The disclosed method is dynamic IPMB address discovery of management controllers in ultradense servers. The method is implemented in the chassis management module (see Figure 1). The IPMB address discovery module (IADM) is responsible for blade server management controller type discovery (see Figure 2). IADM additionally updates shared memory with the management controller type and the IPMB geographic address, which is used by the IPMI management software. IADM enables the server management software to discover and manage third-party boards without user intervention. The IADM discovery operation is fully automated and does not require configuration or interface changes. IADM is responsible for updating shared memory and notifying the health and event management system when a server blade is removed.
