Method for a sliding-window mechanism for a piezoelectric fan cooling solution

Disclosed is a method for a sliding-window mechanism for a piezoelectric fan cooling solution. Benefits include improved thermal performance.

Background

Laptop cooling is a requirement that is created by the increasing speed of the processors installed in laptops. Conventionally, the laptop screen is not extensively utilized for heat dissipation (see Figure 1). The only similar concept being used is the hinged heat pipe (see Figure 1). It uses two heat pipes connected through a mechanical hinge similar to a door hinge. The main disadvantages of the hinged heat pipe are poor hinge reliability, the large contact thermal resistance at the hinge, and poor heat dissipation behind the screen. (The hinged heat pipe uses a large metal plate that dissipates heat by natural convection. It is very inefficient.)

General description

The disclosed method isa sliding-window mechanism that enables piezoelectric fans to vibrate outside the laptop cover. A notebook thickness reduction is possible and can be achieved by utilizing this sliding window mechanism that enables piezoelectric fans to vibrate outside of the laptop display.

The fans improve thermal heat reduction by utilizing cooler ambient air. Fresh ambient air is introduced to the interior of laptop through sliding window mechanism in the laptop cover.

The key elements of the method include:

·        Sliding-window mechanism that enables a unique piezoelectric fan thermal solution to move outside of laptop cover, reducing the overall thickness of the laptop

·        Entry of fresh ambient air to the interior of the laptop through the window more effective...
