ABSTRACT

  This article describes a method how to control access to secret or confidential printouts without using a personal printer or a printer in a room with access control.

INTRODUCTION

  This paper describes improvements in the area of computer network printers which are used by sev- eral people, and two-way-radio traffic security - or billing protocol printers, with the purpose to control the access to the printed paper.

PROBLEM(S) TO BE SOLVED

  When printing out secret or confidential docu- ments, e.g. normal engineering documentation, or two-way-radio traffic security - or billing protocols, normally everybody who has access to the printer automatically has access to the printouts.

  Therefore secret documentation is normally printed on a personal printer near to the person who creates this documentation.

  And two-way-radio traffic protocol printers am normally located in a locked room with access con- trol for trustworthy persons.

PROPOSED SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM(S)

  The primer has an additional output tray with a lock. Only people with the matching key have access to this tray.

  It is even possible to send documents to a remote location without compromising the confi- dentiality of the documents.

  Two-way-radio traftic protocol printers can also be located anywhere, even in an open-plan office.

   The printer supports two different modes: Standard and Learning.
