INTRODUCTION

  Existing voice commands used in mobile phones is largely limited to voice dialing. This paper presents an enhancement to such voice com- mands used in mobile phones to enable users to pick up incoming calls with their own voices.

DESCRIPTION

  This enhancement requires voice recognition in a mobile phone and has two phases of operation, namely, a training phase and a recognition phase.

  The training phase requires a user to train a voice recognition block to recognize a phrase that is normally used when answering a call. Some exam- ples are "Hello!", "Peter's speaking." or "Speaking." Hence, this phrase is a user config- urable call answering voice command.

  When the call answering voice command is enabled and there is an incoming call, then the recognition phase is activated when the user speaks the phrase. The spoken phrase is received by the microphone that then converts it to a voice signal This voice signal triggers the voice recognition

block and is also filtered to remove undesired back- ground noise such as the ringer tone before storing in a memory. If the voice signal is recognized as the call answering voice command by the voice rccog- nition block, then the incoming call is accepted and the filtered voice signal in the memory is transmit- ted to the calling party.
