With an explosion in two way wireless data communication we must address new product fea- tures which will make Motorola's products easier to use and more acceptable in the marketplace. Two way data device users are usually communicating with the same circle of colleagues who carry similar type of devices and there are certain types of mes- sage behaviors that can be observed and taken advantage of. Data content of the messages sent are usually related to their daily activities performed on the job such us: Message: How is test progressing?   The problem with these devices is that keyboard is often small and it is difficult and slow to type in messages before they are sent. Currently these devices are not taking advantage of learning s users communication behavior and using this data to make the devices simpler and easier to "se.

  "Intelligent Message Origination And Response", provides for quicker and more user friendly operation of two way devices such as "Pagewriter". The following features can be added to the device which will make it friendlier, easier to "se and more marketable.

FEATURE 1. (MESSAGE ORIGINATION)

  People in their working environment behave according to a schedule. There are certain events that happen with in the same time window every day. These include things such as going to lunch, taking coffee break, having a staff meeting, going home, etc. What is proposed here is for a handheld device to learn what messages are being sent with what contents and during what times and then dur- ing the message origination provide the user with the list of canned messages that they can select instead of retyping the message based on their previ- ous "sage. Furthermore the device can provide a list of users where the users that receive messages at these times with the data supplied moved to the top of the hierarchy.
