Currently, one of the problems faced by all mobile phone users is the relatively short talk and standby time. A user has to re-charge the mobile phone battery fairly often. Therefore, it is desirable to have hand phones which have longer talk times and standby times.

Another problem faced by mobile phone users is the security of hand phones. A phone lock function is available in most current hand phones in order to provide security for users. Unfortunately, this phone lock function only activates at the time the phone is powered up.

This feature presented here will ultimately lead to less current drain in cellular phones, so that standby times and talk times of the hand phone can be improved.

Details of the function are shown in the flow chart. When there is no activity on the hand phone, a counter in the hand phone starts to increment.

When a predetermined waiting time is reached, the LCD screen of the hand phone will be either completely turned off, or alternatively, only one icon may be left on to indicate that the phone is still switched on. The phone then enters a screen saver mode. This waiting time of the screen saver funclion can be set based on user personal preferences.

Furthermore, the screen saver can incorporate the password protection function into the hand phone. This password protection function can be turned on or off by the user. A correct password will need to be keyed...
