An improved hose coupling member for use in a vacuum cleaner

The figure shows an improved coupling member for coupling a hose (1) to the main body of a vacuum cleaner (not shown in the figure). The coupling member comprises a conventional tap connector (2) which can be coupled in a known manner to the body of the vacuum cleaner. Between the tap connector (2) and the hose (1) a ball joint (3) is provided which allows the hose (1) to pivot relative to the tap connector (2) and the body of the vacuum cleaner. The ball joint (3) is hollow and forms part of the flow channel through the hose (1).

The improved coupling member combines the advantages of a conventional tap connector (good manouevrability of the vacuum cleaner’s body via the hose) with the advantages of a conventional swivel coupling (good manouevrability of the hose). The coupling does not have the disadvantages of a conventional tap connector (reduced manouevrability of the hose) and of a conventional swivel coupling (reduced manouevrability of the vacuum cleaner’s body via the hose).
