Description

        � � � � � The disclosed method is an on-motherboard LAN. Its configuration/multiplier accumulator address that is conventionally stored on a dedicated electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM) is stored in the FWH via system BIOS (see Figure 1).

        � � � � � The main components of the disclosed method include:

•        � � � � Input/output (I/O) controller hub (ICH)

•        � � � � Firmware hub (FWH)

•        � � � � Physical layer device (PHY)

•        � � � � System BIOS

        � � � � � The multiplier/accumulator (MAC) address is programmed into the FWH via a BIOS interface at the time of motherboard test.

        � � � � � The LAN data is formatted as follows. Word 0B contains the PCI subsystem ID.� This field is dependent on the customer requirements. Word 23 contains the PCI device ID, which is specific to the ICH and LAN controller. Words 30 -32h are programmed by a boot agent at initialization based on the hardware/software configuration. The boot agent also recalculates the CHECKSUM. Any variances in these words from the base data file should be acceptable.
