   The process of discovering, designing, developing and manufacturing new drug compounds, with the advent of new technologies such as genomics and proteomics, has become strongly dependent on complex series of steps involving computation, data sharing and storage management. The overall process has become increasingly prone to both inefficiency and error due to the complexity and volume of data and the number of manual processes currently involved.

The invention is a new business process model to systematize and automate the processes involving data generation, analysis, sharing analysis results, and collaboration required to efficiently develop new drug compounds.

Business process models can be used to define a vision for future improved business processes. In general a business process model work product description is a set of process flow diagrams. Process models explore the ordering of tasks or activities that accomplish business goals, and that satisfy commitments between external actors and internal agents. An activity may be a manual or automated operation that completes a unit of work. Business processes can be triggered by events in the environment or by internal initiatives or conditions. A business process either generates value for the business or mitigates costs to the business.

In addition business process models are of value because they:

Provide a rationale and understanding for the introduction of information systems into the business. Establish objectives for system development projects to implement business transformation initiatives. Justify automation investment based on detailed business process metrics.
