Abstract

Customers purchase certain vehicles because the features of such products meet or exceed their expectation. To deliver high-quality vehicles with outstanding features that our customers like, we have to ensure the latest and best technologies are implementation ready on time to support new vehicles' development. An advanced searching mechanism is required to search through internal and external technology databases for best technologies according to the program's requirements. A tracking mechanism is also required to watch development progress at each stage of interested technologies. With both mechanisms in place, we will then be able to excite our customers again and again.

An advanced searching mechanism is required to search through internal and external technology databases for best technologies according to the program's requirements. Method

Process flow of the Intelligent Program Technology IR (Implementation Readiness) Tracer with appropriate searching and tracking mechanisms to support the best vehicle development is given in Figure 1. The available technologies and their development progress are traced. We start this process by identifying the program category and its scaleability. After that, required technologies and corresponding required IR dates are compiled based on the Program Directive Letters.

In the company, the development status of each new technology is reported to the "Intra Advanced Technology Database" once it is sponsored. Any vehicle program can sign new project contracts with advanced groups for its own use. In general, several vehicle programs adopt the same piece of technology. It is especially true when they are in the same segment. One good example is the side air bag. Thus, a program team has to search through the entire intra technology database before it starts a brand new project with any advanced group.

Suppliers send their new technologies information to the "Supplier Technology Database" voluntarily to gain more business. Vehicle programs have to search through the "Supplier Technology Database" to find matching technologies as well.
