Background

      A PCI Express card can be dislodged during shock and vibration testing and events. This disconnection must be eliminated.

      Conventionally, the disconnection is attempted to be solved by retention features on the side of the connector (see Figure 1). However, this solution sacrifices important board surface area on the PCI Express card.

Description

              The disclosed method is PCI Express 1x, 4x, 8x and 16x connectors with an integral latch. The key elements of the method include:

•             Integral latch that is molded as a part of the PCI Express connector housing

•             Molded feature as a part of the housing that accepts a pivoting latch

              One implementation contains a molded feature in the housing itself contains a dimple (see Figures 2 and 3). The feature snaps into a feature on the PCI Express card (see Figure 4). To release the card, actuate the latch and the dimple and PCI Express card disengage, enabling the user to remove the PCI Express card.
