        � � � � � The disclosed method is maximizing the life span of a mobile rechargeable battery by automatically charging and discharging the battery. A software/hardware implementation enables the user selection to partially discharge the battery occasionally and automatically to maximize the life span of the rechargeable battery.

        � � � � � When an external DC input is applied, the decision can be made not to charge the battery but continue to use the battery’s capacity to power the system (see Figure 1). The battery is used until a preset power level is reached. The level of charge/discharge can be user configurable, typically as a percentage. The overall battery operational life span in time or number of recharge cycles is extended thereby lowering the rechargeable battery replacement costs.
